CPPG Wellbeing - Nov 2017 - Movember

As part of our Make Every Contact Count (MECC) and CPPG Wellbeing programme, we are pleased to announce this month’s initiative of "Men’s Health".

The Scale of the Problem:

According to the Movember Foundation:
“The state of men’s health is in crisis. Men experience worse longer-term health than women and die on average six years earlier. Prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years.  Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50. Three quarters of suicides are men.  Poor mental health leads to half a million men taking their own life every year. That’s one every minute.”

The Solution

The Charity addresses some of the biggest health issues faced by men on a global sale: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention
By encouraging men (whom the charity refers to as "Mo Bros") to grow a moustache (“mo”), Movember aims to start a dialogue about men’s health among members of the public. The goal is to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths.

Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

At CPPG, our clinicians are committed to supporting those at risk and so please speak to your physiotherapist if you are yourself, or know of someone who is potentially at risk.

We are supporting the Movember Foundation with collection bins at our main clincs.  Several members of the team have also grown a moustache - you will know who they are!
